These fascinating fossils date back to the Late Cretaceous period, approximately 66 to 100 million years ago, when the area was covered by a shallow, warm sea teeming with life.

Plesiosaurs from the Oulad Abdoun Basin are known for their distinct features, including elongated necks, broad bodies, and powerful flippers. These marine reptiles were formidable predators, equipped with sharp teeth and strong jaws to catch their prey. The most notable genera found in this region include Elasmosaurus and Polycotylus, among others.
